An upcycled Dometic RM2353 multi-power absorption refrigerator provides ultimate versatility. Cool or keep frozen 5 cu. ft. of space with either 120VAC or 12VDC power, and leave prepared campsites behind by burning propane.

The hitchen’s large stainless steel countertop could be bigger, but has been slimmed down to a more conservative, still functional, food-safe work surface for prep and easy cleanup. If it were bigger, it’d be heavier.

Though it’s best to cover a hitchen to protect it from the most of invasive pests and elements, the countertop provides a solid base for meal prep and shelters the cargo carrier’s storage space below from the sun and light rain.

Cut outs in the corners allow drainage and ease clean-up while retaining brims for preventing things from rolling off.

Absorption refrigerators are also known as “cold plate” fridges. The function using the same refrigerant phase changes as compressor style fridges do, but by boiling a refrigerant with heat, and cooling over the condensation phase change, instead of evaporation.

To keep the fridge working the hot side has to stay hot and the cold side should be opened as little as possible. A fan could be helpful.
